New to Postcards from the Edge?
Postcards from the Edge is a unique benefit show and sale of original, postcard-size artworks by established and emerging artists. All artwork is exhibited anonymously, and the identity of the artist is revealed only after the work is purchased. With the playing field leveled, participants can take home a piece by a famous artist, or one who's just making their debut in the art world. All proceeds support the work of Visual AIDS.
How to participate?
1. Create an original postcard-size artwork (4 x 6 inches). Drawings, photographs, paintings, printmaking, and mixed media are welcome. One entry per artist.
2. Complete our new online submission form. You will receive a submission number after completing the form. Paper submissions forms are linked above and available outside of our offices in Chelsea.
3. Write your submission number on the BACK of your artwork, along with your full name and signature. Indicate the top of the artwork with an arrow. If it’s not possible to write on your postcard, you may enclose a separate piece of paper with your submission number.
4. Carefully package your artwork. We recommend that you wrap artwork in wax paper and place it between cardboard. Do not submit charcoal or pastel pieces without fixing them. Do not wrap wet or sticky artwork.
Mail your artwork to Visual AIDS before the postmark deadline:
Friday, November 22, 2024
.
Mailing address: Visual AIDS, 526 West 26th Street #309, New York, NY 10001
Is there a theme?
No! We welcome any artwork from any artist as long as it follows the guidelines listed on our online submission form.
How and when will you communicate with me?
Via email! Make sure you enter your correct email address when filling out the online submission form. This is how we will reach you to confirm your artwork has been received, to share information on our artist preview party, to tell you if your work sold and who purchased it, as well as other info along the way.
Please make sure mail from postcards@visualaids.org is not going to your spam folder!
You will receive a confirmation email once your artwork has processed. This can take several weeks as we receive hundreds of works. If you have submitted an online form and we have not received your work within several weeks, we will send a reminder.
Can I drop off my artwork in person?
Yes, but you must have completed the online submission form (or paper form) and included your submission number on the artwork (for online submissions).
In-person drop off is available M-F from 10:30am-6:00pm at 526 W 26th Street, #309, New York, NY 10001. You are welcome to slide artwork under our door if no one is here ONLY if it is safely and properly packaged.
When is the exhibition and sale?
The view only exhibition and preview will be Friday, January 24 at Berry Campbell. This is for participating artists and those with VIP tickets ONLY. More information on this in December 2024.
The sale of works goes online Saturday, January 25 at 10am on this website. All sales are made online and all artworks are sold anonymously for $100 (with the artist revealed after purchase).
Please don’t share images of your artwork and disclose who made it until after the sale.
